Day 2

2. Write a juxtaposition. Write a juxtaposition of a person with a phoebe and the apex of that phoebe. For instance an agoraphobic in a meteor shower.

Anatidaephobia - Fear of Ducks

Jerry made his way out the door for the first warm spring morning of the year. The sun was shining, not a rain cloud in sight. If he didn't take the opportunity he knew he'd regret it.

Down the driveway. Left onto Morris St. A mile down the road, Polansky Park. Jerry's go to morning route. Today, he wouldn't make it to Polansky. He wanted nothing more than to sit on the northside bench up the hill and watch park goers enjoy the sunshine, but he was blocked.

No less than 100yds from the park entrance stood an army Jerry couldn't muster passed. 15 mallard ducks. What looked like a simple road crossing had turned into an unwanted standoff. As Jerry slowly approached, the world stopped turning. The ducks stopped crossing. Parked in the middle of the road, Jerry was face to face with his biggest fear.

With other people nearby, Jerry had to choose whether to turn around or attempt to get by. Being a full grown, 35 year-old male, showing the panic he felt in his twitching toes was not an option. Today was the day Jerry jumped his barrier. He moved to the left side of the road. There was a 10ft gap between the ducks and the bushes lining the parkway. As he edged closer and closer to the anchored water fowl his heart raced and his hands began to sweat. He was really going to do this. These birds could be conquered and moved aside. What was Jerry so afraid of?

"Quack"
A head turned to look at the timid passerby.

"Quack, Quack"
Another head turned. And one by one, two by two they were now all looking at Jerry.

Frozen in a tip-toe stance, like a kid sneaking into the kitchen for a midnight snack, Jerry's face turned white.

It wasn't until two houses from home when Jerry recognized he was sprinting. A great day for a run he thought to himself as he slowed down to a trot at his driveway. Tomorrow will be a better day for sitting in the park anyways.
